Southern Living!

SL has been a standard on our coffee tables for as long as I can remember, so we were over the moon when they contacted us to be in their May issue. We knew we were going to be in their Made by Southern Hands feature (p.21)....

but when we get our first, shiny copy in the mail what did we see?!? 3 things were chosen as editor's picks and WE were one of them! Frame the [date] a Southern Living editor's pick! While smiling ear to ear we were also working from sunrise to sundown and then some. We apologize for the blogging hiatus!

Insert ftd: Studio Loft

(Found via Door Sixteen)

Scene: An airy studio with a modern, eclectic sensibility.

Insert ftd: The date you opened shop and took a chance doing what you love.

Why Barnwood & Black?:
With its worn aged wood and sleek black lines- it's edgy, eclectic and would work perfectly in this space.

Hanging 101: Getting the height right

The most common mistake when affixing new art to the wall is hanging it WAY TOO HIGH. The general rule of thumb in the art world is to hang your piece at eye level. (And we are not talking the eye level of your 6 foot 5 inch well-meaning husband. ) Centering the mid-point of the art piece* 55" to 58" from the floor should accommodate the average viewer.

*Don't fret my fellow lovers of the gallery wall - this rule can still apply. You simply center the collection of pieces as a whole within this range.

blogs we read & you should, too: Katy Elliott

The Blog: Katy Elliott
The Site: www.katyelliott.com
Why we love it.....

1) She is renovating a 260-year-old house, which in and of itself is pretty awesome.

2) We dig her English, farmhouse style.

3) She makes things like brioche.

4) We love finding new art, and she points us in the right direction with pretty pieces like these.

Once upon a time....

We hear some pretty awesome stories that inspire the ftds we create each day, but this one just might take the cake......

When my parents were dating, people very quickly began pestering my dad about when they were going to get married. My dad, since they weren’t sure yet, told everyone who asked, in his typical character, that they were getting married on February 30th. ‘Oh, really?! Wow, that’s awesome! February thirt…wait a second!’ -ha-

Well, years passed, people quit bugging them, and my parents were engaged Christmas Eve 1984. They were married a couple of months later. After the ceremony and on the road to their honeymoon, the thought hits my dad as he exclaims to my mom: ‘You have got to be kidding me! …Do you realize what date today is?’ A little confused, my mom says, ‘…Yes, it’s March 2nd.’ Dad reponds, ‘Yea, it’s February 30th!’ They both had completely forgotten about that imaginary date, and suddenly there it was, sitting right before them as their wedding day.

Mom and Dad say it’s evidence of the LORD God’s sovereignty and sense of humour, for which they are most grateful. And that’s the date I would like framed for my parents: their wedding day, February 30th of 1985.

Happy Valentimes Day!

When Ashley was little she talked a lot. And a few words weren't pronounced correctly because it was all coming out so fast. Thus, Valentine's Day became, to us, Valentimes Day.

It's the holiday some people love to love and others love to hate. Regardless of where you stand on this issue, I bet you like dessert. Here are some Valentimes yummies.

And a few lovey quotes to inspire your own love notes....

Grow old with me! The best is yet to be. ~Robert Browning

Who, being loved, is poor? ~Oscar Wilde

We loved with a love that was more than love. ~Edgar Allan Poe

A man is not where he lives, but where he loves. ~Latin Proverb

What the world really needs is more love and less paper work. ~Pearl Bailey
